Digital Marketing Simplified...

Lately, I am feeling like Digital Marketing has just been turned to one of those new, fancy buzzwords you should use to sound smart in meetings… Well, Digital Marketing was first popularized in the early 2000’s but has actually been around much longer. Like way longer.

Let’s define it to everybody that has A LOT going on (all of us) in way that we can all remember.

Marketing has always been about connecting with your audience in the right place and at the right time. Today, that means you need to meet them where they are already spending time: on the internet.

Enter Digital Marketing -- in other words, any form of marketing that exists online.

Digital Marketing is any form of marketing products or services that involves electronic devices.

That’s the reason it has been around for decades (because electronics have) and why it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with content marketing, Google ads, social media or retargeting.

Digital Marketing can be done both online and offline.

And, both matter for a well-rounded digital marketing strategy.

There are 7 big categories of Digital Online Marketing:

1. Search engine optimization (SEO)

2. Search engine marketing (SEM)

3. Content marketing

4. Social Media Marketing (SMM)

5. Pay-per-click advertising (PPC)

6. Affiliate marketing

7. Email marketing

That said… I’ll talk about each of the 7 categories online marketing in a separate blog, for the sake of completeness.

Then there are the 4 big categories of Digital Offline Marketing.

First, there’s enhanced offline marketing. Usually this is a form of marketing that is entirely offline, but enhanced with electronic devices.

Next, there’s radio marketing of course, we can’t forget television marketing. TV ads have been around for more than half a century.

Finally, the biggest and fastest growing area of offline marketing, phone marketing.
